ITR e-filing Process
Step 1:Â Go to home page of the income tax department by visiting â https://incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in
Step 2:Â Click on Register, on the top right-hand side
Step 3:Â Select the appropriate User type: Individual, HUF, or Other than Individual and HUF
Step 4:Â Fill up the required details, which can be
- In case of Individual: PAN, Full name details, Date of birth, Residential status
- In case of HUF: PAN, Name, and Date of incorporation of HUF
- In case of Other than Individual and HUF: PAN of entity, Name, Date of incorporation of entity, type of company if the user selected as a company
Step 5:Â Click continue
Step 6:Â Fill in all the required and mandatory details:
- In case of Individual: Password, Contact details, Current address details
- In case of HUF: Password, PAN of Karta, Contact details of Karta, Current address of HUF
- In case of Other than Individual and HUF: Password, Personal and contact details of principal, address of company/entity and click on submit
Step 7: Once done with registration, an OTP will be sent to the registered mobile and email address for residents. For non-residents, the OTP will be sent to the primary registered email address.
Step 8:Â Fill in the received OTP to complete the registration process.
You will be registered with the Indian Income-tax department once completed with the above-written process. Now, you can log in as and when required.

Income tax e filing India login is a very easy file through the website. to login to the account, visit the same Income-tax website and click on login from the top right-hand side. A popup will appear asking about the User ID and password. Fill in your PAN number as the User ID and resolve the captcha, once done you will be logged in to your income tax account. Filing Income Tax Return process:
In India, people have the facility to file their income tax returns in two ways â Offline or Online by electronic/internet means. It is very easy and convenient to e-file the income tax return. Following is the detailed process through both ways:
Offline filing the Income Tax Return:
To be specific there are 4 steps to file an offline income tax return, which are â Download the ITR form, fill in the required details, save it in XML form, and upload the same on the government website. For a detailed process one can follow:
Step 1:Â Go to home page of the income tax department by visiting â https://incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in
Step 2: From âDownloads > IT Return Preparation Softwareâ, download the applicable Income Tax return utility
Step 3:Â A zIP file will be downloaded, extracted the document from that ZIP folder, and open Utility form
Step 4:Â Fill in all the required and mandatory options on the form
*Also, a pre-filled XML form can be downloaded and imported for pre-filing the data in the Utility form.
The same can be done after login on your account and visiting â âMy Account > Download Pre-Filled XMLâ.
Step 5:Â Fill in and verify all the tabs and calculate the Income Tax
Step 6:Â Save the file in XML form
Step 7:Â Login to the e-filing portal using PAN and number as your User ID and resolving captcha
Step 8:Â Click on âe-fileâ and then on the âIncome Tax Returnâ link
Step 9:Â Then, selects any of the following options to verify the Income Tax Return:
- I would like to e-Verify, or
- I would like to e-Verify later
- I donât want to e-Verify and would like to send the formally signed income tax return through the post (normal or speed) to âCentralized Processing Center, Income Tax Department,Bengaluru â 560 500â later
If one selects âI would like to e-Verifyâ then generate and fill in EVC/ OTP through following options:
- Digital Signature Certificate (DSC)
- Aadhaar OTP
- EVC using prevalidated bank details or Demat account
Step 10:Â Click Continue and upload the Income Tax Return XML file
Step 11:Â Submits the Income Tax return
Step 12:Â Click on View to view the Income Tax Return
Also, when one choose any of the one options in Step 9 do update generated EVC/OTP numbers:
- Attach a digital signature file, if selected Digital Signature Certificate (DSC)
- Enter Aadhaar OTP received on the mobile number registered with UIDAI if selected Aadhaar OTP
- Enter EVC received on the mobile number registered with the bank or Demat account

Online filing the Income Tax Return:
When a taxpayer uses online means to file an income tax return it is called e-filing. Income tax e filing India login is available through the official website of the tax department. Income tax return e filing India is the most convenient and easier way to file an income tax return in India. A taxpayer can file income tax returns 1 and 4 through the following steps:
Step 1:Â Go to home page of the income tax department by visiting â https://incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in
Step 2: Login to the e filing portal using the PAN card number as your User ID and resolving the captcha. If not registered then first get yourself registered then login to complete the income tax filing process
Step 3:Â Click on âe-fileâ and then on the âIncome Tax Returnâ link to start the process
Step 4:Â Once done a page will get opens up asking following details:
- PAN card number will be auto-filled
- Select Assessment year
- Select ITR form number
- Select âFiling typeâ or âOriginal/Revised Returnâ
- Selected âSubmission Modeâ as âPrepare and Submit Onlineâ
Step 5:Â Click on Continue and read all the mandatory instructions carefully
Step 6:Â Fill all the required fields of the income tax form
Step 7:Â Next, from âTaxes Paid and Verificationâ option selects the appropriate and applicable option

- I would like to e-Verify, or
- I would like to e-Verify within 120 days of e-filing the income tax return
- I donât want to e-Verify and would like to send the formally signed income tax return through the post (normal or speed) to âCentralized Processing Center, Income Tax Department, Bengaluru â 560 500â within 120 days of filing the same
Step 9:Â Lastly, selects the âPreview and Submit reportâ and verify all the selected and fed data

Through these steps, one can file the income tax report using an online methodology. However, the process of filing the ITR doesnât complete until the person verifies the income tax report through either of the steps written in Step 8, which means:
If one has selected âI would like to e-Verifyâ then verification can be done by entering EVC/OTP when it is asked.
These EVC/OTP can be generated by: EVC by using bank ATM or by visiting the EVC option under âMy Accountâ, Aadhaar OTP, Prevalidate bank, or Demat details. The generated EVC/OTP should be filed within 60 seconds of generation otherwise the income tax return will be submitted automatically submitted.
